Bereits zum fünften Mal wird dieses interkulturelle Fest auf dem Gelände des Jugendzentrums Struwwelpeter in Kronach veranstaltet. Diesmal hat man an zwei Tagen die Gelegenheit auf dem weitläufigen Gelände des Struwwelpeters afrikanische Musik zu hören, zu tanzen, sich vom großen Basar verzaubern zu lassen, Essen aus anderen Kulturen zu genießen oder um ganz einfach zu entspannen und neue Menschen kennenzulernen. Von Samstag, den 23. Juli bis Sonntag den 24. Juli ist das Gelände ab 12.00 Uhr für alle Gäste geöffnet. Auch diesmal ist es dem Organisationsteam gelungen, namhafte Musiker aus der afrikanischen Musikszene zu gewinnen, die eine einzigartige Stimmung auf das Festgelände zaubern werden. Das Kronacher Afrikafest lockte von Anfang an mehr als 1000 Besucher nach Kronach. Organisiert wird das Fest von Mitarbeitern des Jugendzentrums Struwwelpeter, der Migrationsberatung des Diakonischen Werkes und zahlreichen Ehrenamtlichen aus der Musik- und Tanzszene. Gefördert werden die Interkulturellen Wochen und damit auch das Afrikafest durch das Bundesprogramm „Demokratie leben! Aktiv gegen Rechtsextremismus, Gewalt und Menschenfeindlichkeit“, das durch das Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend finanziert wird. Man kann das Afrikafest eigentlich nicht isoliert sehen, sondern es ist eingebunden in eine breit angelegte Reihe von Veranstaltungen, die sich mit dem Thema „der/das Fremde unter uns“ befasst. Einige Veranstaltungen fanden bereits statt und einige werden auch noch durchgeführt. Das große Ziel dieser Veranstaltung ist neben Spaß und Unterhaltung auch die Sensibilisierung der Gesellschaft für neue unbekannte Dinge und vor allem Menschen. Deshalb wurde bei allen Veranstaltungen versucht, auch Asylsuchende aus dem Landkreis Kronach mit einzubinden.
